so you’ re not losing your intellectual property to the open web and doing all of it while the technology itself shifts every few days. That rate of change alone causes people to freeze. And the third is the question underneath all of it, which is whether any of this actually drives competitive differentiation. There isn’ t a single company in the Fortune 500 standing up publicly and saying it is meaningfully more efficient or more productive because of AI. We’ re a long way from that.
There’ s also a revenue reality that isn’ t talked about enough. Most of the AI revenue being reported today is what I’ d call circular economy: platform companies selling to model companies, model companies selling to infrastructure companies, consultants selling AI strategy. The enterprise client sitting in the middle of all that hasn’ t generated meaningful AI-driven business value yet. The adoption curve and the value curve haven’ t met yet. That’ s the central problem in enterprise AI, and almost no one is talking about it openly.
And here’ s the part people miss: even the companies building the frontier models haven’ t fully cracked how to embrace them internally and produce disproportionate impact. So this is genuinely hard. Everyone is preaching it, but very few are drinking their own Kool-Aid. aimagazine. com 53
