LUTZ BECK
THE AI INTERVIEW

Lutz Beck did not take a conventional route into technology leadership. He began his career in classical consulting, focusing on organisational and process improvement rather than software, but that changed as ERP systems began transforming the corporate world.

Lutz, who today serves as CIO at Daimler Truck North America, found himself increasingly drawn from process consulting into implementation work, taking on projects across several major systems platforms.
“ I did some implementations on SAP and I was moving more and more towards the technology space,” he reflects.“ It was fascinating, what was happening at the time. I was able to gain a lot of understanding on the infrastructure side, on the database side and of all the different elements in the technology space.”
From business administration to tech leadership Unusually for someone now leading a major technology function, Lutz holds a business administration degree rather than a technical one. He believes this background suits the modern CIO role well, given its recent evolution.
“ When you look at the CIO role, it has evolved from a specific technology focus into a business focus,” he says.“ So, I’ m in the right space at the moment.”
