AI APPLICATIONS

Since the mid-20th century, technology and the sports industry have been intertwined – from early computerised performance analysis in the 1960s and 70s, to machine learning( ML) and motion tracking in the 1990s.

From ML and data analytics being applied to statistical analysis in baseball in the 90s, to IBM’ s“ Deep Blue” supercomputer famously defeating world chess champion Garry Kasparov in 1997 – AI can now provide real-time analytics, injury prevention, personalised training and advanced fan experiences. Today, AI is not just about bettering sport, but the people watching it. With a global fanbase estimated at 1.8 billion, the Premier League is seizing this future. The league has announced a groundbreaking five-year partnership with Microsoft to become its official cloud and AI partner, a deal that has the worlds of sport and technology buzzing.
This collaboration goes far beyond stadium advertising. It aims to revolutionise the fan experience through a new AI-driven platform, the‘ Premier League Companion.’ The goal is to offer unprecedented real-time analytics, prevent injuries through predictive modeling and create personalised viewing experiences for supporters, whether they are in London, Lagos, or Kuala Lumpur. as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella puts it:“ We’ re teaming up with the Premier League to bring its billion-plus fans closer than ever to the game they love.”
