THE AI INTERVIEW
GigaModular: LiquidStack’ s engineering for the unknown Recognising these challenges, Liquid Stack developed what could be the industry’ s first truly scalable liquid cooling platform.
The GigaModular CDU( Coolant Distribution Unit) is a rethinking of data centre cooling architecture.
“ Rather than just iterate by coming out with another product, we wanted to solve and future-proof deployments through a platform that customers can grow with,” the CEO explains. The system’ s modular design addresses a critical challenge facing AI operators: the need for flexible infrastructure that can adapt to quickly evolving requirements whilst delivering immediate returns on investment.
The GigaModular’ s innovation lies in its shared control architecture.
“ Every single system traditionally has an electronics box, a PLC and all of these components,” Joe notes.
“ What GigaModular does is leverage one control system across multiple pumping units.”
This approach delivers both economic and environmental benefits, massively reducing the direct and indirect carbon footprint compared to traditional cooling systems that duplicate control infrastructure across multiple units.
The platform’ s development timeline also reflects the industry’ s accelerated innovation cycles.
When Nvidia approached Liquid Stack to develop the system, the company delivered in just one year: half the typical product development timeframe.

“ Normal product development cycles are like two to three years,” Joe says.
The supply chain reckoning The fast adoption of liquid cooling has exposed significant infrastructure constraints across the global supply chain.
“ The demand for units is outstripping global capacity to produce the infrastructure,” the CEO says.
Recent tariff implementations have further complicated matters, forcing manufacturers to reevaluate supply chains whilst demand continues to surge.
