OpenAI was founded in 2015 as a nonprofit. It updated its structure in 2025 to a for-profit and describes itself as a“ public benefit corporation”. It first made waves with ChatGPT and the various iterations of the popular model. Like its competitor Anthropic, OpenAI is also gearing up for an IPO. It recently announced its latest model, Astra. In a shocking introduction to the AI model, the company shared a selection of 10 results, each of which resolves or makes substantial progress on a longstanding open problem. The model’ s cybersecurity capabilities led OpenAI to conclude that Astra meets its‘ critical’ risk threshold. OpenAI’ s CEO Sam Altman explained in a long post on X that:“ We are also going to be launching our next model soon.”
