Between hard hats and human loops Gorden outlines that implementing AI responsibly requires both explicit governance and tailored risk across various business functions.“ The thing that’ s most important about AI is what does governance look like? What I mean by that is we’ ve got to have a high degree of observability in terms of what the AI is doing at any given stage. It’ s not just a case of this thing is operating in a black box and we don’ t really care about it and we walk away. Absolutely not.”
“ We’ ve also got varied risk appetite,” he says.“ This means that there are some areas of the business where if we’ re going to implement AI, we do it in a very strict manner. Vetting is a really good example of where we try and leverage AI to help facilitate at scale. That’ s where we are absolutely ruthless about applying the right kind of guardrails. We make sure that there’ s a human in the loop at every single stage.
“ In other areas where we can be a bit more experimental, we’ ve got a bit more appetite for risk. It’ s about deciding upfront where you want to be a bit more risk averse versus where you want to be a bit more risk accepting.”
Fix my tap Gorden says that enterprise attitudes have changed towards AI in recent times.“ Before, it just felt like it was the silver bullet that was going to solve everything, but people weren’ t quite sure how”, he recalls.
