Four IMDA execs reveal how Singapore is advancing quantumsafe networks, green software and AI for local context and innovation
Few national bodies are tasked with simultaneously governing a digital economy, prototyping its frontier technologies and designing the policy frameworks that will govern them for decades. Yet that is precisely the mandate of Singapore’ s Infocomm Media Development Authority( IMDA). Across quantum communications, enterprise AI, digital sustainability and tech policy, IMDA’ s leadership team is working at a pace and depth that reflects the urgency they attach to the task.
“ AI has the potential to uplift and transform sectors and markets across the economy,” says Dr Lawrence Wee, Director of Business and Ecosystems at IMDA.“ But given our space and resource constraints as a small island state, we need to squeeze out as much efficiency from the stack as possible.
“ One important area that can yield significant gains is the software layer, how we design, build and run software determines a large part of our digital carbon footprint. Digital sustainability is therefore not optional for Singapore. It is the only way we can scale and ride on this AI revolution without breaking our carbon and energy limits.”
