ANTHROPIC: ENTERPRISE AI’ S ETHICAL CHAMPION

Anthropic established itself as OpenAI’ s primary enterprise competitor in 2025, achieving remarkable 1,000 % year-over-year growth to reach US $ 3bn in annual recurring revenue. The company’ s Claude 4 family of models, released in May, set new standards for practical AI application, particularly in software engineering where it achieved a record 72.5 % success rate on the rigorous SWE- Bench benchmark.

What distinguished Anthropic was its ability to work autonomously on coding projects for up to seven hours: a breakthrough for developer productivity. The company’ s Constitutional AI approach, developed in 2023, became the gold standard for responsible AI development by 2025, with Anthropic contributing 17 of 23 international standards for AI alignment.
The company faced its own legal challenges, finding itself at the centre of copyright lawsuits. In one case, a federal court ruled that training on copyrighted material was fair use, but using pirated books was not, highlighting the nuanced legal questions plaguing the industry.
Anthropic’ s collaboration with major cloud providers including AWS and Palantir demonstrated strategic positioning in the enterprise market. Its commitment to AI safety research, combined with practical enterprise applications, positioned it advantageously in regulated industries and government applications where responsible AI deployment was paramount.
