Eddie is one of Alibaba’ s co-founders. He has overseen, in his time as CEO, the evolution of the company’ s cloud computing arm and AI strategy. Its flagship model Qwen is often seen as a serious rival to US counterparts; it recently announced Qwen 3.8, with 2.4T parameters. The company says it is second only to Anthropic’ s Fable 5. It also leads in data centres, including a US $ 53bn AI infrastructure commitment. Eddie graduated from the College of Information Engineering of Zhejiang University of Technology in June 1996. ​ He has been involved with Alibaba since its founding in 1999 and initially served as its Technology Director. He has held various roles through the years at Alibaba, including at Alipay, Alimama and Alibaba Health Information Technology. Eddie has served as Alibaba’ s CEO and director since September 2023.
