Companies like OpenAI have established licensing agreements with major publishers, including a partnership with The New York Times that provides structured access to the newspaper’ s archives whilst ensuring appropriate compensation.
“ If I was an artist, a) I would like to be able to opt out of people generating art in my style and b) if they do generate art in my style I’ d like to have some kind of economic model associated with that,” says Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, in an interview with Lex Fridman. These arrangements can, however, create a twotier system where some organisations pay for content access whilst others attempt to collect material without permission.
